Elliot, PhD. Candidate I'm investigating the life and works of
Sir William Mitchell Ramsay, a noted archeologist from the 19th century.
Unfortunately, there is a Nobel Prize winning chemist from the same era named
Sir William Ramsay, and there is much more material on him than on the
subject of my thesis. With Aware, I'm able to indicate anything to do with
chemistry as off-topic, and the search results I get back are so targeted
that I'm actually able to focus on my research.
I was researching how .NET assembly
strong-naming can be used with code obfuscation tools, but the documentation
seemed to require that all module dependencies had to be specified at
development time. For our application, we needed security measures for assemblies
that would be discovered automatically by the program at runtime. I
appreciate Aware's approach to term management and automatic query
generation, as I was able to enter many terms describing the
"aboutness" of my topic, whereas a strict conjunction of terms
would not have been successful. Automatic query generation submitted more
queries to more sources than I had time to do, and result ranking brought the
information I was seeking to the top of the list.
I was asked by a colleague to investigate
the estimated market growth in adaptive workflow technologies. She sent me an
email with a description of a grant proposal she wanted to write, and needed
analyst estimates of market potential. Knowing nothing about the field, I
first saved her email as a document, loaded it into Aware, and hit
"Start Search". The results were right on target. I added some
terms like CAGR and "analysts estimate" and started to find results
that had growth rate projections. Aware made my task not only easier, but
much faster than if I had started my search from scratch.
The new program AWARE has served me very
well this first quarter of the year- when I first heard about the program I
was a little skeptical about it. But after using it for multiple papers this
year I am so glad that the resource is available to us! I appreciate the
opportunity to be able to "rate" my search results to better
fulfill my purposes in using the program. The program has been very helpful
to me and has made my work load much easier as I research for my assignments. |
